DK Percussion does not have a bass drum mallet line, but instead offers completely custom bass drum mallets. Just let us know what you want, and we will do it at a price competitive of most other mass mallet manufacturers!
The "Evolution" Series mallets all feature a 15" 100% consistent carbon fiber shaft and hardwood cores. The superb balance offered by the carbon fiber shafts and wood cores allows the player to create a beautiful tone using any common timpani technique. Carbon fiber is much more consistent than wood, offering easy pitch matching of all mallet pairs. Carbon fiber feels much like bamboo, but has a warmer projection. DK Percussion uses oversized cores to produce the richest possible tone on any timpani. All mallets are wrapped tightly, consistently, and neatly to ensure the best sound and feel from each pair of mallets, without the usual "slapping" sound of other oversized mallets.

dk1: Roller - "Molto" Soft: The dk1 is made up of a 15" carbon fiber shaft and a large (1-1/4" dia.) hardwood ball. Two layers of soft, yet dense wool felt is pulled tight and voiced to prevent contact noise on timpani heads. The seamless parachute wrap creates a very soft, virtually contact-less sound. This deep and rich sonority is perfect for rolls, both piano and forte, as well as "bell-like" tones, such as the opening to Brahms' First Symphony. The dk1 Roller rivals any other "roller" out there!
dk1 Molto Rollers: $40.00dk2: Soft General - "Generals": Very similar to the dk1s, this mallet features a large hardwood ball core and one layer of soft wool felt. The dk2 Soft Generals are one step harder than the dk1 Rollers. These mallets offer smooth rolls and articulation when needed. This great general mallet would serve well in most soft solo passages, as well as legato ensemble work.
dk2 Soft Generals: $40.00dk3: Medium General - "Cartwheel": The dk3 features a cartwheel wrapped wheel. The 1-1/2x1/2" wheel creates unique sound on the timpani, giving way to a very rounded articulation. The cartwheel wrap allows for several different articulations with one mallet. The dk3s serve as a versatile general mallet. This is the "middle of the line" articulation in the Evolution Series timpani mallets.
dk3 Cartwheel: $40.00dk4: Hard General - "Hard White": The dk4, commonly referred to as the "Hard White" timpani mallets, is a very articulate timpani mallet. A 1-1/8" hardwood ball core is tightly wrapped with a thin layer of white wool felt. A cartwheel style wrap is used to allow the most even pull on such thin felt, and a softer top for less articulate rolling. This mallet serves as a workhorse for any classical timpani excerpt, such as any Beethoven symphony.
dk4 Hard White: $40.00dk5: Staccato/Hard - "Gray Felt": Similar to the dk4, this mallet bridges the gap between hard felt and chamois. Using the same core and inner wrapping as the dk4, the dk5's outer wrap is thin colored (100% wool) felt. The articulation of this mallet is very hard, very similar to a hard-pressed felt mallet.
dk5 Gray Felt: $40.00dk6: Extremely Hard - "Chamois": The dk6 Chamois is the hardest mallet in the DK Percussion Evolution Series. The small (1-1/8") hardwood core wrapped in chamois offers extremely hard articulation with the lack of a plastic "slapping" sound. The fine-leather chamois is pulled tight and secured using thread and small amounts of glue. Great for articulated quiet passages and loud thunderous alike. The balance of these mallets prevents over-playing in loud dynamics, yet still project very well over an ensemble.
dk6 Chamois: $40.00"Jekyll and Hyde Mallets" - Soft/Hard: (Once a part of the Evolution Series, this mallet is now a custom order.) This brainchild of Christopher Deane offers two mallets in one! Featuring the same carbon fiber shafts and small hardwood cores as the Evolution Series, this mallet has hit two different ends of the spectrum! One side is wrapped in a thick layer of white German felt, similar to the dk2s, for a soft rolling and playing area. The opposite side features thin, articulate felt, similar to that on the dk5s. This mallet was originally invented to give the timpanist two different sounds for rolls and staccato sixteenth notes in the Sibelius Finlandia. The dk4 "Jekyll and Hyde Mallets" will serve any timpanist well in a situation that requires a quick mallet change.
dkJ Jekyll and Hyde: $45.00
Full Set of Evolution Series timpani mallets (dk1, dk2, dk3, dk4, dk5, dk6): $240
