DK Snare Drum

My goal in building this drum was to reproduce the look of a drum I thought was just incredible. That drum is pictured at the end of this gallery as a comparison. I did not stick to the details of everything (I used 8 lugs rather than 10), but I thought it turned out pretty close. Not only does it look great, this is by far my favorite snare drum ever!

This drum is 5x14" with 8 tube lugs and single flanged hoops. It is a 6-ply maple shell with 6-ply maple reinforcement rings. I started off with a Dunnett R-Class snare strainer and decided it was not only too heavy, but it just didn't fit the aesthetic of the drum. I opted for a Ludwig "Millennium" strainer. I had to make an adapter plate out of aluminum, but this was no trouble at all and it was well worth the effort.
